Long Island-based makeup artist and beauty creator Erica Taylor built a loyal following during the pandemic by sitting in her bedroom and talking women through makeup in a way that felt more like a conversation than a tutorial. In late April, Taylor released her debut book,The Magic of Makeup, photographed by Katherine Nuñez of Solqa Media (the same photographer who captures Pretty Local Industry Nights). The book translates her teaching style into a visual, step-by-step format that mirrors the way she communicates online — direct, approachable, and focused on technique over trend. The Magic of Makeup emphasizes foundational skills: how to build a natural complexion, how placement shifts the entire feel of a look, and how subtle adjustments in blending or product layering can completely change the outcome of a routine.
The result is less of a traditional beauty book and more of a guided extension of her content, designed for readers who want to understand makeup in a more intentional, repeatable way.
