It’s Laser Season: Why Fall Is the Best Time to Hit Refresh on Your Skin

Expert says the weather this time of year is just right for light-based treatments. Here’s why.

If your skin is feeling dull, dry, or spotty after summer, there’s good news: Fall is the perfect time to fix it. Ask any dermatologist or aesthetic provider, and they’ll tell you, autumn is officially laser season.

Once the beach days are behind us and ultraviolet (UV) levels drop, it becomes much safer—and far more effective—to do laser and light-based treatments that resurface the skin, fade sun damage, and even out tone. That’s because these procedures make skin temporarily more sensitive to sunlight. When you minimize UV exposure before and after, you reduce the risk of post-treatment pigmentation and give your skin a better chance to heal and glow.

Why Your Skin Thrives in Fall

After months of sunscreen, sweat, and long days outdoors, the skin’s barrier can feel uneven or congested. Lasers like MOXI and Halo, and light devices like broadband light (BBL) or intense pulsed light (IPL), target everything from dark spots and redness to fine lines and dullness. In short, they undo the visible signs of summer and help rebuild collagen beneath the surface, so skin looks smoother and brighter heading into winter.

Even one treatment can make a difference, but many experts recommend a short series spaced several weeks apart for the best results. Fall and winter are ideal because you can keep your skin protected with SPF during recovery and avoid the intensity of summer sun.

The “Laser Season” Mindset

Think of it as a seasonal reset. Just like you swap sandals for boots, it’s a time to transition your skincare from maintenance to repair mode. Fall is also when dermatologists and med spas roll out their most popular resurfacing packages, knowing their clients are ready to invest in brighter, healthier skin before the holidays.

If you’re new to laser or light treatments, start with a consultation. Your provider can help determine what’s best for your skin type and goals, especially if you have melasma, active acne, or more sensitive skin tones that need a gentler approach and specific treatments that won’t spur more pigment production.

What to Know Before You Book

Plan ahead: you’ll likely have some redness or light flaking for a few days afterward. Skip retinol and exfoliants for several days before and after, and wear sunscreen daily (yes, even when it’s cloudy). The reward is skin that looks smoother, more even, and genuinely refreshed—a glow that no highlighter can fake.

My Fall Glow Routine

This season, I’m doing a series of MOXI and BBL HEROic treatments at Permanent Touch Cosmetics in Woodbury to target texture and pigmentation from summer. I did a series last year and had fantastic results. I’ll be sharing the full process—the sandpaper phase, the glow, and everything in between over on @prettylocal.li . Follow along if you’ve ever wondered what “laser season” really looks like IRL.
