Black-Owned Beauty on Long Island
Representation in beauty matters. After more than 20 years working in women’s magazines, I’ve seen how often people were overlooked, especially when it came to textured hair, deeper skin tones, and culturally specific beauty needs. That wasn’t OK then, and it isn’t OK now.
From the beginning, my goal with LI Beauty Scene and Pretty Local has been to reflect and celebrate the cultural and ethnic diversity of Long Island’s beauty scene. I want readers—and the professionals I feature—to feel seen in my coverage of beauty, wellness, and fashion. As one step in that ongoing commitment, this list highlights Black-owned beauty businesses across Long Island, from freelance artists to full-service salons. It’s an evolving resource and will always remain free.
