I Tried It: Exomind

The new FDA-approved device is said to help with mood, anxiety, brain fog, and more.

Balanced Health & Wellness in Wading River is one of the first spots on Long Island to offer ExoMind.

Balanced Health & Wellness is one of the first offices on Long Island to offer Exomind, an advanced, noninvasive brain-stimulating treatment designed to support mood, focus, and overall mental well-being. Based on cutting-edge ExoTMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) technology, the treatment targets the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex—the part of the brain responsible for emotional processing, decision making, and mood regulation.

“Exomind works on magnetic stimulation of the brain, and what it can do is help improve impulses, enhance chemical activity in the brain, and support better mental stability,” says Neeta Mitchell, RN, co-founder of Balanced Health & Wellness.

The benefits are wide-ranging, from improved sleep and reduced anxiety to support for eating disorders and even weight loss. “It’s been shown to help people lose up to a pound a week,” says Balanced Health & Wellness co-founder Matthew Rutman, MD. “It’s especially helpful if you’re on a GLP-1 or trying to transition off one.”

Each session lasts about 30 minutes, with a complete series taking just three weeks. “It’s completely noninvasive and very relaxing,” adds Mitchell. “A lot of our patients are looking for alternatives to daily medication or therapy, which can be expensive and time-consuming. ExoMind offers a new way to improve mental health that’s efficient and accessible.”

Maintenance sessions are recommended, especially after stressful life events. “It’s like a tune-up for your brain,” says Dr. Rutman.

What’s it like?

Pretty Local got to experience the treatment firsthand. You feel a tapping sensation on the top of your head that’s not at all painful. It sounds similar to a woodpecker and follows a distinct pattern, so I used the forced relaxation to get into a meditative state as the ExoTMS did its thing. I nearly fell asleep during the 25-minute session. About halfway through the three-week treatment, I noticed that I was responding more calmly to stressful situations than usual and was overall feeling less anxious. The pit in my stomach, which I tend to get from anxiety, wasn’t present. I also woke up feeling more uplifted.

For those seeking to maintain their mental edge—or find new ways to support mood and focus—Exomind offers a promising, science-backed option.
