What Is ICOONE?

Originally developed in Italy, ICOONE is a non-invasive body treatment that uses motorized rollers and gentle suction to massage the skin and underlying connective tissue. The treatment is designed to stimulate circulation and lymphatic drainage while improving the appearance of cellulite and skin texture. Over a series of treatments, it may also help with body contouring.

Unlike some body-contouring treatments that rely on heat, freezing or muscle contractions, ICOONE is essentially a mechanical massage. That's also one of its biggest selling points: there's no heat, needles or downtime.

How Does ICOONE Work?

The handpiece uses motorized rollers and controlled suction to gently lift and massage the skin. The combination is designed to stimulate circulation and encourage lymphatic drainage, which can help reduce the appearance of temporary fluid retention and puffiness.

The treatment is also intended to improve the appearance of cellulite over time. It's important to distinguish that from permanently removing cellulite, which isn't what ICOONE does.

What Does the ICOONE Treatment Feel Like?

Before the treatment, I changed into a thin gray bodysuit, which allows the handpieces to glide smoothly over the skin. My provider then worked methodically over different areas of my body using handheld rollers that gently lifted, rolled and massaged the tissue.

The sensation surprised me. I expected something more intense, but it felt more like a deep-tissue massage with rhythmic suction than an aggressive body treatment. There was enough pressure that I could feel it working, but it never crossed into painful territory. In fact, I found it incredibly relaxing.

Because the treatment is designed to encourage lymphatic drainage, the movements are deliberate and repetitive, almost meditative. If you're someone who enjoys a good massage, you'll probably appreciate ICOONE for the experience alone.

What to Expect After ICOONE

One of the appealing things about ICOONE is that there's no significant downtime. You can generally return to your normal activities after treatment.

You may notice that your skin looks temporarily smoother or that areas of puffiness appear reduced after a session. Those immediate changes shouldn't be confused with the longer-term results that may come from completing a series of treatments.

When Will You See Results?

You may notice some changes after a single treatment, particularly when it comes to puffiness and how the skin looks and feels. I noticed that I felt less puffy, especially through my midsection and thighs, and my skin looked a little smoother after my appointment.

For cellulite reduction and body contouring, however, one treatment isn't enough to determine whether ICOONE will deliver those longer-term results. Providers typically recommend a series of treatments, with the number and frequency depending on your goals and treatment plan.

How Many ICOONE Treatments Do You Need?

You will see differences in puffiness and tone in just one or two treatments, but for best results, a series of five to 10 treatments are recommended.

The number of treatments you'll need depends on what you're hoping to achieve. A provider may recommend a different treatment plan if your goal is temporary de-puffing versus improving the appearance of cellulite or contouring the body.

How Long Do ICOONE Results Last?

Your results can peak as long as six months later, but to maintain results, you’ll have to do regular maintenance treatments, ideally, once a month.

Any reduction in puffiness immediately after treatment may be temporary, particularly if it's related to fluid retention. Longer-term changes in skin texture or the appearance of cellulite may require maintenance treatments.

How Much Does ICOONE Cost?

Cost at Blue Water Spa: $350 to $500 for a single treatments. Packages or bundles can run between $1,500 to $3,600.

Pricing can vary depending on the treatment area, length of the appointment and whether you're purchasing an individual treatment or a series.

My Experience With ICOONE

I tried ICOONE at Blue Water Spa because I was curious about a non-invasive treatment that promised to address some of the things we tend to notice more in the summer: puffiness, cellulite and overall skin texture.

After one appointment, I did notice a few things. I felt less puffy, especially through my midsection and thighs, and my skin looked a little smoother. Whether that was the immediate effect of lymphatic drainage, improved circulation or simply the result of a really good massage, I can't say with certainty. What I can say is that I walked out feeling lighter, refreshed and very relaxed.

One treatment isn't enough for me to evaluate ICOONE's longer-term body-contouring or cellulite-reducing potential. I'm curious to see whether a series of treatments would lead to more noticeable changes in the appearance of my skin.

Where I Had ICOONE

I had ICOONE at Blue Water Spa, which offers the treatment at its Oyster Bay and Southampton locations.

Pretty Local Bottom Line

ICOONE sits somewhere between a beauty treatment and a very high-tech massage. If you're looking for a non-invasive way to temporarily reduce puffiness and leave your skin looking and feeling smoother, it's an interesting option—and I found the treatment itself surprisingly relaxing.

For cellulite reduction or body contouring, I'd think of it as a commitment rather than a one-and-done treatment. One session gave me a noticeable de-puffed, smoother-looking effect, but a series would be needed to really judge those longer-term claims.

This is my personal experience and is intended for informational purposes only. Results vary, and ICOONE may not be appropriate for everyone. Talk with a qualified professional about whether it's right for you.
