Xerf
XERF is a non-invasive radiofrequency (RF) skin-tightening treatment that uses dual-frequency energy to heat multiple layers of the skin and stimulate collagen and elastin production. Unlike RF treatments that use microneedling to deliver energy into the skin, XERF uses an external handpiece, so there are no needles or punctures.

What Is XERF?
XERF is a non-invasive radiofrequency treatment from Cynosure Lutronic designed to tighten and rejuvenate the skin. It uses RF energy to heat the dermis, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin—proteins that help give skin its firmness, structure and bounce.
XERF received FDA clearance in August 2025 and is available in the U.S. Unlike RF treatments that combine radiofrequency with microneedling, XERF delivers the energy through the surface of the skin, so there are no needles or punctures.
How Does XERF Work?
XERF uses two RF frequencies—6.78 MHz and 2 MHz—to deliver energy at different depths in the skin. The heat triggers a controlled response that stimulates collagen production and remodeling over time.
Think of it as giving your skin a controlled heating treatment that prompts it to get to work rebuilding some of its structural support. Because collagen production takes time, the tightening you see immediately after treatment isn't the whole story; results continue to develop over the following months.
The device also has built-in cooling to help protect the surface of the skin and make the treatment more comfortable. XERF has three depth settings and 10 intensity levels, allowing the provider to adjust the treatment based on the area being treated and the patient's goals.
What Does XERF Treat?
XERF is designed to improve skin laxity and firmness and can be used to address signs of aging on the face and other areas of the body.
It's an option for people who want the collagen-stimulating effects of an energy-based treatment without needles or microneedling.
What to Expect During a XERF Treatment
The treatment takes about 45 minutes. Your provider moves the handpiece over the treatment area, delivering RF energy while built-in cooling helps protect the surface of the skin and keep the treatment more comfortable.
The sensation is definitely warm. When I had XERF, it felt hot on my skin but wasn't intolerable. I was offered ProNox to help offset any discomfort, but I didn't feel that I needed it and skipped it.
No numbing was required for my treatment.
What to Expect After XERF
One of the biggest selling points of XERF is the minimal downtime. After my treatment, my skin wasn't red or irritated at all. I even went straight to dinner later that evening.
In the days that followed, I had no pain, lingering heat or redness. That was my experience, though individual reactions can vary, so your provider should explain what to expect based on your skin and treatment settings.
When Will You See XERF Results?
XERF is a slow-burn treatment. The heat stimulates a collagen-remodeling process, so the results don't appear overnight.
You may notice some initial changes, but the more significant effects of collagen stimulation develop gradually over approximately two to six months. If you're considering XERF for an event or specific occasion, you'll want to plan well in advance.
How Many XERF Treatments Do You Need?
The recommended treatment course is typically two treatments spaced about four weeks apart.
Your provider may recommend a different plan depending on your skin, degree of laxity and treatment goals.
How Long Do XERF Results Last?
Your results can last 12 to 18 months. Because XERF works by stimulating your own collagen production, results aren't permanent. Your skin will continue to age naturally, and maintenance treatments may be recommended over time.
How Much Does XERF Cost?
Cost at Liquid Luxury Aesthetics: $1,750 for a single treatment, face and neck; $2,750 for a 2-session bundle
Pricing may vary depending on the treatment area and whether you're purchasing an individual treatment or a recommended series.
My Experience With XERF
I had my first XERF treatment at Liquid Luxury Aesthetics in Smithtown and was curious about whether this RF technology could give me some noticeable tightening without the downtime associated with more aggressive treatments. The treatment itself took about 45 minutes and felt hot but manageable. I was offered ProNox but didn't feel I needed it, so I skipped it.
The bigger surprise was how little there was to recover from. My skin wasn't red or irritated when I left, and I went straight to dinner that evening. In the days afterward, I had no pain, lingering heat or redness.
I went back for my second treatment in April 2026 and had a photo taken so we could compare it with my first treatment. At that point, I could see some lifting along my jawline, and the skin around my lower face looked firmer and smoother. Collagen remodeling takes time, so I'll be going back for another photo to document the progress over the following weeks and months.

Pretty Local Bottom Line
If you're looking for skin tightening without needles or significant downtime, XERF is an interesting option. The treatment itself is relatively quick, and in my experience, recovery was essentially a non-issue.
The bigger commitment is patience. XERF relies on your skin's own collagen-building process, so the results develop gradually rather than appearing immediately. After two treatments, I could see some improvement in the firmness and lift of my lower face, but I'm giving the collagen-remodeling process more time before making a final call.
This is my personal experience and is intended for informational purposes only. This is not medical advice. Treatment results vary, and XERF may not be appropriate for everyone. Talk with a qualified medical professional about whether it's right for you.
