For 17-year-old Adriana Lane of Smithtown, stepping into the world of pageantry was a dream long in the making. “I always loved watching pageants and thought it was something I could do,” she says. But between her busy schedule as a competitive gymnast and the demands of school, there was little room for new pursuits.

That changed at age 16, after injuries and academic stress prompted her to step away from gymnastics. “I was at the beach with my best friend talking about the Miss Long Island Teen pageant, and she said, ‘Just apply and see what happens.’” Three months later, Lane was officially entered into her first pageant—and finished as second runner-up.

Coming Back Stronger

That first experience sparked something in Lane. “It was so fun—unlike anything I’d done before,” she says. “Gymnastics is competitive, but pageantry felt different. I built friendships and found a community.” When she returned the following year, she came better prepared—not just physically, but mentally.

“Pageants are more about mental preparation than people realize,” she explains. Lane spent time working on her interview and public speaking skills, her walk, and her confidence. “I created a sheet of affirmations, stuck it on my bathroom mirror, and read it every day. I didn’t want to walk away thinking, ‘I should’ve done better.’ I just wanted to feel proud of myself.” The mindset shift worked. This time, Lane took the crown as Miss Long Island Teen.

Finding Balance

Now, a few months into her reign, she’s learning to juggle her title with school, coaching gymnastics, and maintaining a social life. “I was saying yes to everything at first. Then I realized it’s okay to say no. It's good to balance family time, free time, pageant work, school, and all of those priorities.”

Her Platform: Building Self-Confidence in Girls

Inspired by her own experiences in gymnastics, Lane’s platform focuses on helping young girls build confidence. “As a gymnast, I was always comparing myself—my body, skills, personality. I want girls to know they’re beautiful and unique just as they are.”

To bring that message to life, Lane visited Girl Scout troops across Long Island and is now working on a mentorship series through dance schools and libraries. “It’ll be like workshops for girls to come and make friends and build confidence in themselves.”

She also brings that mission into her day job. “As a gymnastics coach, I really try to be someone the girls can talk to about anything. It’s more than just coaching—it's about making them feel seen and supported,” she says. “It’s my favorite part about the job.”

Local Beauty Favorites

Pageantry has introduced Lane to many local beauty spots that she now swears by, including:

  • Hair: Color by Casey in Sayville. “She’s amazing—does my balayage and face-framing highlights.”

  • Spray tans: Bronzed by Bri in Lindenhurst. “I’ve been going to her for years, and I love that she even travels if you need.”

  • Nails: Perfect 10 in Smithtown. “They do it all—manis, pedis, and blowouts, and they’re super accommodating.”

  • Makeup and hairstyling: Liz Kaiser and her team have become a go-to for pageant events—and possibly prom too!
